Destination wedding invitation wording and what to include
How to word a destination wedding invitation, what travel details belong on the card or the website, and when to send, with a picker that writes yours.
A destination wedding invitation needs the same wording as any invitation, plus a line pointing guests to a website for travel and accommodation, and it should go out earlier. Send save the dates eight to twelve months ahead and invitations ten to sixteen weeks ahead. Use the picker to write yours.
Destination wedding invitation wording
Choose who is hosting and how guests will stay, add your details, and copy the wording. Put the travel detail on your website, not on the card.
What goes on the card, and what goes on the website
The card is short. The website is the guide.
| On the card | On the website |
|---|---|
| Who is hosting, who is marrying | Flights and airports |
| Date and place | Visa and passport notes |
| A line pointing to your website | Hotel booking links and codes |
| Reply-by date | Weather, packing and dress code |
| Transport between places | |
| Schedule for the whole stay |
How do you word it?
Name the place as part of the invitation, not only the venue: "in Tulum, Mexico". Then add one line: "Travel and booking details are at [website]." A short line like that keeps the card clean and is easy to update.
Priya and Dev are getting married in Tulum, Mexico, and we would love you to join us.

Travel and booking details are at priyaanddev.com.
Please reply by March 1, so you can book early.
When should you send it?
Earlier than a local wedding, because people need time to book flights and rooms. Send save the dates eight to twelve months before, invitations ten to sixteen weeks before, and set the reply date five to eight weeks before the wedding. The invitation timeline tool turns your wedding date into every date, and when to send wedding invitations explains why.
Reply early, book early
Set the reply-by date well before the wedding and say why: "so you can book early". Guests then have a reason to respond promptly. If you have a hotel block, include the cut-off date for the discount.
What should the website have?
At minimum: the schedule, how to get there, where to stay, what to wear, and a way to reply. See what to put on your wedding website for the full list.
